#1 - Time Management as a Medical Student
Spotted: A college newbie taking on the world one burnout at a time. But don’t worry, darling, with a little strategy, self-care, and a whole lot of discipline, you’ll rise above it all. Life’s too short to stay in a slump, so get up, shake it off, and keep moving forward. Remember, you're the one in control of your body.
The first few months in my college journey were overwhelming. Meeting new people, engaging in social gatherings, and adjusting to new environments was difficult for me to comprehend. It was a huge step for me to take because I came from a different province. There were times when I got burnt out without even doing anything, or maybe just the thought of what I should be doing was making me feel exhausted and unmotivated. In today's blog, I am here to share how I cope when in a slump.
#1 Study Strategies
Work ahead of time. At this point you should be organising your thoughts and recognising those subjects where you feel you are lacking. I personally focus on those I don’t really get easily during discussions, since some of them require a lot of time to take in.
#2 Time Management Tools
If you are someone who is organised and has to-do lists, digital calendars, or any other time management helper app, just stick with it if you’re already comfortable. For me, I don’t really use any apps or any time management tools, but I always set a goal for when the work should be done. In this process, I am not pressuring myself on something every single day but rather giving myself time to freely do what I want.
#3 Self-Care Routine
It is common for those people with goals to feel burnt out. However, we should all know that it is also just a phase, and it is your task to find a way to stop the cycle. Usually, every time I feel my brain being heavy and I can't take any information anymore, I will stop to drink water and to walk around. In this way, you are able to redirect your thoughts to other things that will help you lighten your clouded mind.
#4 Challenges and SolutionsI can really say that Junior High School challenges are different from what we have right now. When we were young, we were always complacent about deadlines; we didn’t usually make an effort on outputs and on those major projects needed, but now I completely feel like I’m a different person. I was never an achiever back then; I just let everything be and went with it. Now that I am able to recognize my lacking, my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to academics, I am able to cope by giving myself assurances every time. Assurance is not just something you would do for your significant other, but you can also do it for yourself, for manifestation and to make yourself feel that you are always doing your best.
#5 Motivation and Mindset
I personally don’t rely on motivation. Motivation is when you have a reason to do such an act, then what if this reason will fade away? It will give you another few weeks to restart over and over again. Though it’s not bad to start over, the thought of it being repetitive is exhausting. I suggest that we all should rely on self-discipline. For instance, when I feel tired, I give myself a fifteen- to twenty-minute rest, and after that I should go back to studying. We all have limits, but with self-discipline, we are limitless. It is something that we should practice, not only for studying but also for our daily living.
You know you love me,
XoXo,
Radtech Girl.
